Mathieu Meijers en studio KASBOEK – Reflection

New stories

Devotional prints, small images depicting religious scenes used for prayer, are Mathieu Meijers' starting point. Three monstrances, richly decorated wafer holders that play a role in the Catholic church service have inspired studio KASBOEK. Both Meijers and KASBOEK respond to the form, material, imagery and history of the objects and blend them with their own fascinations and inspirations. This is how new stories are created.

Religion as inspiration

In the development of Breda, the Christian faith played an important role throughout the centuries. You can see that, for example, in the Grote Kerk and the Begijnhof. From the 1960s onwards, fewer and fewer people are members of any denomination. As a result, many people are no longer familiar with the meaning and practices of Christianity. This exhibition shines new light on Catholic objects, which have been a source of support and comfort for many people in the past. Whatever your faith, the artists invite you to look carefully at the objects and discover their beauty and meaning.
